AUTOMATIC POWER CYCLE APPLIANCE Automatically Resets the AC power according to its ping results. Can be used over the Internet or on Local/Wide area Networks. Can also be manually controlled using a PC's USB port or over a standard analog telephone line Rated at 15 Amps, 110-240VAC Standard IEC 320 C-13 & C-14 AC connectors (so it can be used anywhere in the world) or Standard NEMA 5-15 North American AC Jacks (for USA or other North American installations)
APPLICATION DIAGRAM
The Automatic Power Cycle (APC) unit is a self-contained completely automatic AC power
RESET appliance that is primarily used to reset the power on broadband modems and/or
routers, or any other equipment for that matter, that may hang from time to time. It
is normally used in re-boot applications where there is no Windows-based PC available
to run the CPS "Auto Ping" Program (another option to consider) or where
space is limited.
When used for its primary purpose, with a DHCP router, it is configured to work right
out the box. However, it also has a number of configuration parameters that allow it
to be further customized to meet a variety of other AC power control requirements.
In fact, it is so easily configurable and takes commands so well that if it had a pulse,
it would make an excellent husband.
How it works
The Port Separation Delay provides a 250 ms power up delay between
the two AC Jacks (programmable up to 9 minutes.) This occurs after a power outage or a
ping RESET. This is handy if you have a separate modem and router or other equipment
that may require a delayed power up sequence.
A push button switch is used to manually alternate the power state, ON/OFF or RESET
the power. As a special order item, this switch can be put on a cable (up to 1000') to
allow remote manual control or it can be controlled with a relay from other hardware.
Contact the factory for these special requirements.
PORTS
The "Telco" and "Phone" Ports provide a connection for
an "out of band" backup phone line reboot function. Simply connect a standard
analog telephone line to control the APC in that manner. If the APC sees six unanswered rings,
it will cause a RESET. It can be set to only look at the telephone line when in the "slow
ping" state after all of its active retries are used. This eliminates random wrong numbers
from resetting the equipment during normal operation and allows the phone line to be used normally.
This is great for DSL lines where the analog frequency is normally still available.
They are primarily used as back up. However, if Ring Re-booting or Touch Tone control is your sole
requirement, consider the ARR as a less costly solution (110-125VAC only) or
the U-X1 or U-X3 for 220-240VAC requirements.
The "X-Base" Port and "X-Control" Port can also be used to
Control the unit through an RS-232 port. This is primarily used to maintain compatibility
with older units. A DB9/RJ RS-232 filtered adapter is required.
It is also used to connect other CPS Controllers for expanded backup capabilities.
The controllers provide direct ON/OFF/RESET control via Touch-tones, Web or Cell access,
depending on the controller selected. Additional APC's can also be daisy chained from the
"X-Base Port" and controlled with just one controller. However, if remote control
is your sole requirement, without the Auto Ping, it may be more economically accomplished
using one of the other CPS Base Units and controllers or a unit with a built in controller
such as the NAC-1-2.
The following are some of the operating parameters that can be changed to meet other AC
power control requirements.
