  • Easy to administer from Network
  • Shares a Current Phone Line

PROBLEM
Many vendors and company employees like to have the convenience of an open modem available to perform maintenance or access information at their discretion. The problem is that open modems invite trouble not only from hackers, but also from vindictive employees or those of the vendor. They may also provide a path to the corporate network.

Additionally, if you are not aware of, or conversant with, the newly loaded software, it may be damaging to your system or worse, damaging or injurious to a third party for which you could be held liable. You don't want to hear "... is found negligent in providing adequate control".

SOLUTION
The Controlled Access Switch (CAS) addresses this problem by requiring that anyone desiring access to your system, first receive permission. Permission is granted by enabling the modem (locally or remotely) to answer for a specific period of time and assigning a one-time password to the party requesting access (up to 6 digits). The commands can be entered from any touch-tone phone or they may be appended to a modem's AT dial string.

The enable time window can be set for 10 to 990 minutes. The modem will stay enabled until the access session is completed or the enable time expires. The commands and the password can be entered from any touch-tone phone or appended to a modem's AT dial string even though no modem may be present at the receiving end. A "Dial Log" file program assists when modem entry is used.

Calls that are received without the proper touch-tone passwords are aborted. The administrative Enable/Disable commands can also be entered through the "Phone Port" providing "Local Control" of the unit over the in-house phone wiring or LAN cabling up to 2000'. This may save a phone line that may otherwise be dedicated to maintenance activity or other infrequent access.

COMMANDS
The following is an example of the systems administrator's touch-tone command sequence to enable port 3 for the next 10 minutes and assign a one-time password of 898.

##9#xxxxxx (Admin Password) #210 (Minutes) #3 (Port Selection) #898 (callers Password).

OTHER PRODUCT OPTIONS
CPS also makes other products that can be used to address this general requirement.
