The IPC is an intelligent AC power reboot controller that provides reset capability to unattended remote equipment. The combination of the adaptive AC power range, standard connectors and methods of control make it easy to use anywhere in the world with locally available PC power cords that match the local standard.

It uses standard internationally available parts and IEC 320-C 13 & 14 AC connectors. It can be used on 110VAC through 250VAC mains. It is fuse protected from 10 amps at 115VAC to 6.3 amps at 220VAC loads. It provides various methods of initiating an AC power control to meet most any requirement. They can be initiated over ordinary dial telephone lines or automatically or over a network through a CPS Controller.

RING COUNT METHOD
The IPC connects to an ordinary telephone line and a modem (in & out RJ-11 connectors) at the remote location. It monitors the line and if the modem does not answer in 6 rings, the IPC will recycle the AC power. This would normally indicate that the modem and/or the software are hung. If a modem were not present, it could be used as a simple "ring rebooter" on a dedicated line. The number of reset rings is programmable 1-9. Most international ring cadences are recognized.

EXTENDED COLD START DELAY
This feature may be used to address those continuous storm related power cycles. A computer may be configured to come back up after a power outage, but when the outages continue to occur while it is trying to come back up, it may quit trying (hung). This new "Extended Cold Start" delay feature allows the user to set the initial Power ON delay from the IPC (power main) to the target device for a few minutes or up to 45 minutes after power is restored. This is normally enough time to get through those devastating power cycles that may reek havoc with the hardware. Additionally, if the computer is hung during its initial boot up, or any time for that matter, the IPC can be configured to provide a clean AC power reset with preset delay times.

AUTOMATIC HEARTBEAT METHOD
The IPC also has a 9 pin RS-232 serial port interface to the PC or other target device. It will automatically recycle the AC power if the target hardware or any linked application hangs. The Windows-based Heartbeat software runs on the target PC out of the system tray and has a remotely accessible reset log. A version of Heartbeat that runs as an NT service with e-mail notification is also available. NT or greater machines are required.

DIRECT SERIAL PORT CONTROL
When connected to the serial port of a PC, the IPC can accept the ON/OFF/RESET commands directly from the PC. It also returns the units status to the serial port. The 9-pin serial port is also used to initially program the IPC if necessary.

MANUAL CONTROL
A push-button switch on the unit operates in a toggle ON/OFF mode. The unit can be turned OFF locally, then powered ON via a phone call or over the network (controller required).

REMOTE CONTROLLERS
Other CPS Controllers provide a direct network or TelCo interface to the IPC and are used to provide expanded remote control of the IPC. The TelCo controllers (xx-RRU) recognize direct touch-tone commands that can be entered manually or appended to an AT dial string. It can also share the phone line with other equipment and provides secure access.

The Network controller (N-RRC) can be accessed with any browser. It acts like a mini web site with its own IP address. It presents a control screen to the administrator to make the power selections.

Most of these methods can be used individually or simultaneously with or without Controllers if desired. They can also be used with any AC power strip or surge protector as required.

ALTERNATE IPC CONTROL (for tandem operation only)
A tandem version of the IPC is also available. It allows two IPC's to communicate with each other through their RJ-11 Ports. When one is OFF the other (alternate) is automatically ON and vice versa. It is normally used in conjunction with LAN controlled AC power applications. The Alternate Control units are a separate item number. They do not have all of the features of the single units and do not run with controllers.

LEDs
Three LEDs are used to monitor the status of the unit as well as power from the main and out to the equipment.

Also see the IPN (Intelligent AC Power Node). It offers the same international connectivity conveniences and all of the control options, except that it does not offer the "6 ring" auto reboot feature. Instead, it uses the RJ- TelCo connectors to daisy chain multiple addressable units together so that one controller or PC can control multiple IPNs.
