DISCONNECTS THE LAN WHEN THE MODEMS ARE IN USE

Use With PC Clients or Servers that Have Both Modem and 10BASE-T LAN Network Connections

"I absolutely, positively don't want that server connected when any modem is in use!"

DESCRIPTION
The Mini Firewall is an external hardware security device that is designed to eliminate the possibility of using inbound or outbound dial modem connections to gain access to the corporate LAN.

It can be used at various points on the LAN. But it is primarily used in smaller LAN environments, without conventional firewalls, where one or more users may have a requirement to dial the Internet while their PC is connected to the LAN. See A in the Application Diagram.

With the Mini Firewall installed, the LAN connection is physically broken while the modem session is in progress. This eliminates the possibility of causing LAN damage or security breaches via unscrupulous Internet connections. The Mini Firewall may also be used in other installations, even those with conventional firewalls, to restrict access to high priority type servers while any or only selected dial modems are in use. The server itself may support the modem connection (B) or it may be an adjacent server (C & D) where the possibility of access through a modem connection could be potentially damaging.

TWO MODELS (Basic Mini Firewall and Enforcer)
The Mini Firewall is available in two models. The major difference between the two is in the method in which the LAN connection is re-established.

  1. The Basic Mini Firewall automatically re-establishes the LAN connection when the modem call is completed.

  2. The Enforcer version requires that a program be run prior to the LAN link being restored. This is normally a virus scan or an audit type program.

The Enforcer is supplied with a password protected setup program used by the system administrator to enter the name of the program that must be completed prior to restoration of the LAN link. An OEM version is also available that allows outside software to be directly linked to the CPS restore utility.

The Enforcer version is switch selectable to allow it to operate as the Basic Mini Firewall or as an Enforcer. When used as a Basic Mini Firewall, it allows multiple units to be stacked together to address operation with multiple modems (D) or multiple servers (C).

SECURE FIRE WALL PLATE
The Mini Firewall and Enforcer are also available in a Secure Fire Wall Plate enclosure, making it more difficult for users to by-pass. Punch down 110 connectors on the rear are compatible with the EIA/TIA 568-B wiring standard for easy replacement.
