DESCRIPTION
Note that the MP-RRC is a controller only. It has eight RJ-11
ports and requires an Intelligent AC Power Strip, Internatiinal Power
Controller or a PC-RJ Cable Interface Assembly on each port
that you wish to control. They are connected to the MP-RRC via an RJ-11 connector.
They can be physically located locally or up to 2000' from the controller, using
standard phone or LAN cable.
The Intelligent AC Power Strip is normally used when the target machine
does not have a reset button or when direct power ON/OFF control is also required.
It has six AC outlets: two (2x4), four (4x2), or all six (6x0) may be designated
as "Controlled Outlets" at the time of the order. The others may be
used as normal surge protected AC outlets for printers, monitors or other
equipment that do not require resets or On/Off control.
The International Power Controller (IPC) has two standard IEC (PC type)
AC power connectors. It can be installed anywhere in the world using locally available
PC power cords. It also automatically senses the line voltages for any country.
An automatic "heartbeat" reboot function through the serial port of the target
PC is also included.
The PC-RJ Cable Interface Assembly allows the MP-RRC to perform a
push-button reset (soft reset) on a PC. To use it, the target machine must have
a Reset button that connects to the motherboard. It installs in a vacant I/O
opening on the back of the machine's case, but does not require a slot on the
motherboard. The connecting cables allow the Reset button to also be used normally.
ATX Motherboards
However, these motherboards can also be used with the PC-RJ Cable Interface
Assembly. Since the Cable Assembly simply performs a momentary contact closure,
connecting it to the Power Button pins on the ATX motherboard allows you to turn
the machine ON or OFF when it is in the opposite state. It would require two calls
if it were ON and you wanted to reset it (OFF/ON). (See
Resetting ATX Motherboards.)
How to control it The telephone line that supports the MP-RRC can also be shared with other normal voice/fax or data activity. Calls without a security code are routed to the default port.
Programming
Uses It may also be used to remotely power ON & OFF secure equipment or to reach equipment that may be dispersed throughout a plant or campus. The commands may also be entered locally through any Touch-Tone device connected to the "Default Port". This allows the building (or campus wiring) and switched dial network to be used to control the unit. One Port & Three Port models are also available.
