DESCRIPTION
Mars III is a small low cost converter. It provides the addressable interface between any ASCII RS-232 serial peripheral device and a Unisys (Burroughs) host computer operating with the Poll/Select protocol. It supports all of the Standard variations of the Unisys protocol.

This latest version is a more robust and easier to use version of the original MARS product that was introduced over eighteen years ago. During this period of time over 100 parameters have been added to the software, which can be used to make the unit compatible with virtually any device that you wish to interface. However, the majority of installations require only a few parameters to be changed. MARS III addresses this too with a simplified short setup entry of the commonly used parameters. They can easily be entered, along with the address, through a few dip switches.

A custom setup option is also available for those who may want their unique set of parameters burned in to the unit's EPROM and act as the default configuration. The dip switch still remains active to override the default EPROM parameters.

USES
MARS units have been used to interface most every kind of peripheral device or mini computer imaginable to Unisys Poll/Select host computers; time clocks, bar code readers, pagers, printers, and modems.

It can also easily be used to transmit and receive files between other computers, such as a UNIX system and the Unisys Poll/Select system; or even between two Unisys computers, both operating Poll/Select. Many times it is simply a matter of sending the file as a "print" file to the other system or in effect "printing" to the system.

THE PORTS
The host port is implemented through a male DB-25 pin connector. It can be configured for synchronous, asynchronous, or TDI communications with the host computer. Data rates are selectable to 38.4Kbps.

The peripheral port has both a female DB-25 pin connector and an RJ-45. All of the pertinent asynchronous RS-232 signals are supported. Flow control can be managed with DTR/CTS or X-ON/X-OFF.

This blend of ease of use and sophistication, makes the MARS III a truly unique performer.
