DESCRIPTION
The M-BAT is a buffered asynchronous converter. It allows Unisys/Burroughs TDI
(Two Wire Direct Interface) or asynchronous RS-232 three wire terminal networks
to be installed on polled ASYNCHRONOUS Multi-Drop Data Comm networks. Only one
unit is required at the location(s) where the TDI or Three-Wire RS-232
conversion is required.
The M-BAT is a protocol sensitive unit that provides the RTS and acknowledges
the CTS modem control signals that are required for operation on multi-point
networks, but not provided by TDI or three wire RS-232 terminal networks.
M-BAT has a 2.25K elastic FIFO (First In, First Out) data buffer in both
directions. This allows the input and the output data rates to be different
speeds. The data rates for each port are selected via dip switches on the
unit.
Three wire terminal network topologies are normally implemented in a star
through a modem splitter or other sharing device. See
P-CON or ASR-32.
