DESCRIPTION

  • Time Duration 4 to 90 min.
  • Easy Dip Switch Selections
  • No AC Power Required
  • Disable Inbound or Outbound Calls
The Max Call Timer can be used for a variety of applications where it may be desirable to limit the duration of a phone call. However, it is basically designed to automatically disconnect modem connections that "lock up" and won't hang up, thereby making the line busy for subsequent calls.

When the selected time set in the unit is exceeded, it will disconnect the phone line for 10 seconds and then reconnect it. When the modem senses a loss of loop current, it should complete its disconnect even though the DTE may be holding the control signals high or the H0 (hang up) command was not received.

The cause and remedy for this condition is a gray area. Consequently, in addition to disconnecting the phone line after a set amount of time, it also acts as a "Reset Controller". It sends a reset command to some of CPS's AC Power control Base Units, if used.

When the command is received by the "base unit" it will recycle the AC power outlets and whatever is connected to them i.e., the modem, PC, control systems, etc. This resets them in the event that they may have prevented the modem from hanging up.

Eight Bit Dip Switch
The maximum call time (4 min.-90 min.) is set in the first four dip switches. Two switches are used to control the number of times the unit will repeat the process and two more can be used to disable inbound or outbound calls, in the event that unauthorized calls may be suspected as a cause for the problem.

The Max Call Timer has two RJ-11 connectors for the connection between the phone line and the modem. An LED monitors its operational state.
