DESCRIPTION

The Automatic Ring Rebooter + "ARR+" is a new addition to the family of Intelligent AC power strips. It is an upgraded version of the basic ARR. The ARR is a stand-alone device that was originally built in 1998 as an economical method to recycle the AC power on modems that were hung and would not answer in six rings. However since then, it has been applied to DSL modems where the ring triggers are intentionally generated using the POTS frequency of the DSL. It has also evolved to fill many other applications where economical remote AC power control is required.

The ARR simply monitors the phone line and counts the number of rings. If the answering device fails to answer in the specified number of rings (Ring count trigger), the AC power will be disconnected for 8 seconds then reconnected on all of the "Controlled" AC Jacks.

The number of "Controlled AC Jacks" (2, 4 or all 6) is specified at the time or order. The "Normal" or non-controlled jacks act like normal "always ON" jacks on a power strip. Possibly eliminating the need for redundant equipment.

ARR+
The new ARR+ has all of the features of the previous ARR. It looks the same, acts the same and cost the same. However the new ARR+ adds a serial port and compatibility with the Automatic RESET software packages, Auto Ping and Heartbeat.

Serial Port Control and Programming
It now also provides serial port control for simple AC Power Commands as well as for Setup and Setup Inquiry. All that is required is a small RJ Serial Port Filtered Adapter connected to the serial port of a Windows base PC.

This allows the local PC to send power ON/OFF/RESET commands from an imbedded program or through a TELNET/network connection. The Ring Count Trigger, Reset Duration, Repetitive Delays and Device Address can also be set through the serial port.

Daisy Chain
For larger requirements, the RJ-11 "Control Ports" of up to ten ARR+ units can be "daisy chained" together. Any of the units can then be individually accessed from one "Control Source" (PC, ITTO or External Controller) or controlled with a single Global Command.

A telephone or any analog answering device may be connected to the "Phone Port" on the last unit to share the phone line when using a CPS Telephone Line Controller. The ARR+ may also be included in any "daisy chain" along with other CPS addressable "Base Units".

AC Power Considerations
Each ARR+ is rated at 110-125V 15 Amps. A ten unit Daisy Chain could support 150 Amps or 16,500 Watts. Consequently, Global Power ON Commands have an inherent delay to prevent power up surges on your AC circuits. Each power strip also has a high-level surge protector on both the AC outlets and the control ports.

Simple AC Power Command Examples
A typical serial port command to RESET POWER on Box #2 in a daisy chain is:

*203

Where "*" is the attention code, "2" is the box address, "0" is the default for ALL of the Controlled Outlet Pairs and "3" is the "AC Power Action Command" for RESET (ON-OFF-RESET)

A typical Wild Card Command to RESET POWER on ALL UNITS in a "daisy chain" is:

*#03

Where "*" is the attention code, "#" is the wild card for all of the units in the chain, "0" is the default for ALL of the Controlled Outlet Pairs and "3" is the "AC Power Action Command"

Note that these commands can also be entered remotely through any of the Remote Controllers described below.

Remote Controllers:
These are used to control the ARR+ from remote locations.

Internal Touch Tone Control Option "ITTO"
This economical option allows direct control (ON/OFF/RESET) of the ARR= from any Touch-Tone keypad (land phone, cell or modem). It also provides password protection, remote programming and status inquiry as to the configuration and AC power state. The responses are in the form of "Beeps" (long beep = OFF Short = ON). Previously an External Telco Controller was required. It is still required if you would like to share the line with other telephone equipment or control a daisy chain.

Optional External Remote Controllers
Touch-Tone Controller, use when sharing the Telco line with other Telco devices or controlling a daisy chain.
Multi-Port Controller, use this when you want to connect several ARR+'s in multiple daisy chains (3 or 8 port models), with touch tones.
IP Controller, use for remote control over the Internet or any IP network.
Cell Controller use where no phone line or network access is available. Text or e-mail the commands.
Other controllers are also available, but these are the more popular.

Remember the standard ring count trigger can also be used to control the ARR+ at remote locations at no additional cost.

Automatic Software
The ARR+ is also compatible with CPS's FREE AUTO PING and HEARTBEAT software utilities. This is like having a "reset person" at each location 24x7. This means that you could let a PC or server at the remote site control the whole shebang automatically. You won't even have to get out of bed to send a Reset Command. Simply check your e-mail in the morning.

FAQ
Q. Since the ARR+ can be daisy chained, why would I need a 3 Port TelCo Controller (3P-RRC)?
A. It minimizes the requirement, but it could be used if you wanted to have three separate daisy chains. Or you could put your old ARRs on one or two of the ports and start a new daisy chain on another port.

Q. Why would I want three ARR+ 2x4s instead of one 6x0, if I were going to reset all of them anyway?
A. Primarily to split up the load if it exceeds 15 Amps. Additionally you could address each of them separately, but the Controlled AC Power Strip would be a better option to meet that objective if you would not need to split up the load.

Q. Do you have an international 220V version?
A. Not at this time. See the IPN or IPC.

Q. Will my current N-RRC "IP Network Controller" work with the new ARR+?
A. Yes, and now you can get more out of it. If you already have a daisy chain with other addressable devices, you can simply add the ARR+ to it.

Q. Do I need to send a separate command for each ARR+?
A. Normally that is the case, but you can also use a wild card for the device addresses. Or you could make all of the addresses the same, or group them. There are a lot of games that you can play.

Q. When using a TelCo line controller, can I control the startup sequence of different devices with one phone call?
A. When using a single command with a wild card, there is a programmable power ON delay between various units in a daisy chain of up to 18 seconds. It is multiple of the box address (0-9). You could also play with the "Reset OFF Time delay". It could be up to 90 seconds. In other words when you do a wild card RESET on multiple power strips, one may resume power in 5 seconds and the other in up to 90 seconds.
